MSTC Limited is a Mini Ratna Category-I PSU under the administrative control of the Ministry of Steel, Government of India. The company was set up on 9th September 1964 to act as a regulating authority for export of ferrous scrap with an investment of Rs 6 lakh. The government of India, Members ofSteel Arc Furnace Association and members of ISSA had made with the investment. MSTC became a subsidiary of SAIL in 1974. In 1982, it got delinked from SAIL and became an independent company under Ministry of Steel. It was a canalizing agency for import of ferrous scrap till 1992.

In an effort to Recycle Waste, Protect Environment and Promote Growth, MSTC has developed a series of initiatives.Since inception, MSTC has always made profits and has paid dividends to its shareholders. The shareholders’ investment in the company was Rs. 1.10 Crore and by issuing bonus shares @1:1, the paid up capital was increased to Rs. 2.20 Crore in 1992-93. It has issued further Bonus Shares 3:1, raising the paid-up capital to Rs. 8.8 Crore. In 2011-12 the company declared dividend @ 1077%.

About NIA:

Over the past several years, India has been the victim of large-scale terrorism sponsored from across the borders. There have been innumerable incidents of terrorist attacks, not only in the militancy and insurgency-affected areas and areas affected by Left Wing Extremism but also in the form of terrorist attacks and bomb blasts, etc., in various parts of the hinterland and major cities, etc. A large number of such incidents are found to have complex inter-State and international linkages, and possible connection with other activities like the smuggling of arms and drugs, pushing in and circulation of fake Indian currency, infiltration from across the borders, etc. keeping all these in view, it was felt that there was a need for setting up of an Agency at the Central level for investigation of offences related to terrorism and certain other Acts, which have national ramifications. Several experts and Committees, including the Administrative Reforms commission in its Report, had made recommendations for establishing such an Agency.

The Government after due consideration and examination of the issues involved proposed to enact a legislation to make provisions for the establishment of a National Investigation Agency in a concurrent jurisdiction framework, with provisions for taking up specific cases under specific Acts for investigation.Accordingly, the NIA Act was enacted on 31-12-08 and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) was born. At present, NIA is functioning as the Central Counter-Terrorism Law Enforcement Agency in India. NIA has registered and investigated 93 cases till date. After submission of charge sheets, 13 cases have been finally or partially decided in a trial. Of these, 11 cases have ended in conviction giving NIA an enviable conviction percentage of 85%.

New technologies like electronic meters, remote control of transformers, remote meter reading and HVDS system for AP/ Industries introduced. 20.29 lakh meters out of 55.98 lakh General/ Industrial Consumers shifted out of their premises as on 31.3.09 to curb theft of energy. All these measures have helped in reducing losses by 4% from 23.92% (2006–07) to 19.91% (2008–09) / which resulted in substantial increase in revenue. During 2007-09, 62 numbers New Grid substations erected and capacity at 132 number Grid substations augmented besides the addition of 1070 circuit km. Transmission line and 149 MVAR shunt capacitors to State Grid.

About Kolkata Customs Department:

The Calcutta Customs House was under the overall administrative control of a collector of custom who in later days became a member of the Imperial Customs Service. The collector of customs was subject to the control of the Board of Revenue as the chief Customs authority and in the latter half of the nineteenth century was assisted by five Assistant Collectors. During pre-independence period, the postal establishment of Orissa was a part of the combined Bengal, calcuttaBihar & Orissa Postal Circle headed by a Director of Postal &Telegraphs with the headquarCalcutta.Up to the year 1911, the establishment of Orissa Postal continued as a part combined Bihar & Orissa Circle with its headquarters at Patna.the Post of Director, Posts & Telegraphs, Patna was then upgraded to Postmaster General and a post of Additional Postmaster General was created for Orissa, which functioned from its headquarters at Puri from 20-11-1946 to 11-9-1949.

With effect from 12-09-1949, Orissa became an independent Posts & Telegraphs, with headquarters at Cuttack.The post was then upgraded to Postmaster General during the year 1966.The circle continued its headquarters at Cuttack till its shifting to the present building at Bhubaneswar during 1970.The combined Posts & Telegraphs Circle of Orissa was further bifurcated in September 1974 and the Circle was named as Orissa Postal Circle.Now the post of CPMG is in HAG grade.
